REFLEXES
Mastering Uncertainties
( A fully computerized stock market Simulation Game )
JOURNEY………………
The
journey of Reflexes started in Year 2006, when Jodhpur Institute
of Management celebrated its first ever Management Festival
- Bhavitavya. A small idea which germinated in the minds
of the students was developed in the form of a stock market
game by hard earned efforts of the faculty. The game was played
manually, where in the participating teams were given paper
money which they invested in the simulated stock market and
maximized their returns. Organizing a complex manual game
was difficult, but the perfection in designing of the game
made it a MEGA HIT.
The journey was not over yet! Inspired by the response from
the students, the director of the Institute Dr. Swati Lodha
decided to computerize the game. With rigorous efforts from
faculty Mr. Abhishek Bardia, Mrs. Mamta Ranga, Mr. Vivek Rajpurohit
and Ms. Megha Goyal the game took a beautiful shape with more
flexibility and convenience. This new software version of
Reflexes was played by teams from various Management Institutes
of Rajasthan in Bhavitavya -2 organized in February 2008.
All the participating teams were amazed to play this fully
computerized concept.
But the journey still didn’t end!
From a Simple game to Social Responsibility Mission……
We, at
Jodhpur Institute of Management wanted to show that we are
committed to the society also. REFLEXES proved to be an effective
tool to discharge our duty of corporate social responsibility.
We came out with a mission - A mission of knowledge
sharing. For this we chose to go to students of class XI and
XII of various schools of Jodhpur. Presentations were made
in the schools and students along with the concerned teacher
were invited to our campus. Reflexes was now turned in to
a workshop of 3 hours with a blend of theoretical backdrop
from our finance faculty Mrs. Mamta Ranga and Game Administration
by Mr. Abhishek Bardia and Mr. Vivek Rajpurohit. More than
400 students from various schools of Jodhpur have benefited
from this workshop. The names of few schools are
>> Saint Patricks Vidhya Bhawan
>> Delhi Public School
>> Central Academy
>> Vidhyashram International School
>> Sohanlal Manihar School for Girls
The concept
of learning with fun has been a big success which can be very
well seen from the feed back forms filled by the students
and teachers. Certificates are issued to all the participating
students and winning team of the day qualify for MEGA REFLEXES
- An inter school competition to be held soon.
We also target to take this concept out of Jodhpur to different
educational institutes of Rajasthan.
CONCEPT……..
The game has been divided into five rounds -
Round - I Portfolio Portrayl
In this round each team is given a fixed amount of paper money
which they invest into stock market composed of different
sectors and scripts. This round provides a level playing field
to all the teams.
Round - II Trading Trends
Once the portfolio is designed at fixed price of various scripts,
in this round, the prices of scripts fluctuate. Buying and
selling of shares is done by the team which results into profit
or loss. Trading trends is composed of different trends and
in each trend the prices of various scripts change following
a pattern. A systematic analysis and logical follow up of
the prices can lead to higher returns.
Round - III Corporate Grapevine
This round is page 3 of business world. News from various
corners of corporate world is displayed on the screen of the
system and hard copy is circulated to the teams. The teams
have to predict ups and downs in the prices of stocks keeping
the news in mind and take decisions for the next round.
Round - IV Make a Bid
The effect of round three is seen in this round where the
teams have to make bid for purchase or sale of shares. Wild
guesses are not permitted and thoughtful decision would help
in maximizing the returns.
Round - V The Final Verdict
The bid results are processed and the final results showing
the net worth of each team is displayed on the screen. The
team with the maximum profit comes out to be a winner.
